In order to garner the certifications, both had to complete the Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) training, an executive MBA-style program that trains and certifies qualified professional advisors in the field of exit planning. After completing it, David and Joe successfully passed the closed book proctored exam. The level of difficulty for this accreditation is such that financial advisors also earn up to 34 continuing education credits with twelve major professional associations.
Exit planning expertise is incredibly important for financial advisors who work with business owners; the need for a holistic approach to ‘exit’ is significant. Many times owners don’t have all of the proper planning in place, which is something that Silverhawk Private Wealth has deliberately set out to correct.
The CEPA process teaches that exit strategy is business strategy, therefore the financial advisor must integrate the exit strategy into business, personal, and financial goals of the business owner.
Proper exit planning is about building, harvesting, and preserving family wealth for generations to come and integrating best-in-class business practices into daily operations.
The process consists of three major components, referred to as the “three legs of the stool”:
1) Maximizing business value
2) Personal financial planning, and
3) Life after business planning.
